We are recruiting for leadership roles in the Network!
We’re looking for older people aged 50 and over who want to get involved and help make a difference for older people in Greater Manchester. These leadership roles are a chance to use your experience, ideas and perspective to influence decisions about policies and services that affect later life.

We’re currently recruiting for roles on the GM Older People’s Network Steering Group and the GM Older People’s Equality Panel.
People in these roles work alongside others to share their views, shape discussions and make sure the voices of older people are heard by decision-makers.

Being involved usually means coming to regular meetings, taking part in conversations and consultations, and helping represent older people in your community or around issues you care about. We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences, and we’re especially keen to hear from people who don’t always see themselves reflected in leadership roles.
What is the difference between the GM Older People’s Network and the GM Older People’s Equality Panel?
The GM Older People’s Network and the GM Older People’s Equality Panel have different but complementary roles in supporting older people across Greater Manchester.

The GM Older People’s Network is a broad, member-led network open to older people and organisations who want to connect, share learning and work together to improve later life across Greater Manchester. It provides opportunities for involvement, engagement, events and collaboration, and is guided by a Steering Group made up of older people.

The GM Older People’s Equality Panel is a smaller, more focused group of older people who work directly with decision-makers in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to influence policy, strategy and services. The panel uses lived experience to inform and challenge decisions, particularly where there are inequalities affecting older people.

Join the GMOPN Steering Group
Would you like to help lead the GM Older People’s Network? Are you aged 50 or over and passionate about making a difference for older people in Greater Manchester? Are you a resident of Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside or Wigan? We are currently taking applications to join the GM Older People’s Network Steering Group.
The Steering Group leads the Network and as a whole and has oversight of all projects and events we take part in, making sure that everything that we do is in line with our values – being representative and inclusive, being age-proud and positive about ageing, and being led by older people.
We meet every 2 months at the St Thomas Centre, in Ardwick, Manchester. There are currently 12 members of the Steering Group, including myself, and we are looking to recruit an additional 8 members.
The group as a whole would include representatives from all the GM areas as well as a cross-section of people aged 50 and above from different backgrounds and with different interests and life experiences. We are particularly keen to recruit people from diverse backgrounds to make sure we are a representative voice for older people in Greater Manchester.
We’re a friendly group who all bring our different experiences to focus on how we can best make a difference for older people in Greater Manchester. As well as representing our locality, members of the steering group are also encouraged to take a lead on different priority areas that fit with our interests and experience (e.g Housing, Culture and leisure or digital exclusion).
If you’d like to find out more about joining the steering group please contact Liz Jones: liz@macc.org.uk. This round of applications closes February 13th but you can apply to join at any time and your application will be considered provided there are vacancies for members in your area.

Join the GM Older People's Equality Panel
Would you like to help influence decisions that affect older people in Greater Manchester? Are you passionate about making sure the voices of older people are heard, valued and acted upon?

The panel was established in April 2022 and is now in a strong position to influence decision-making affecting older people across Greater Manchester. The panel brings together older people and partners to inform, shape and, where necessary, challenge developments, policies and services that impact later life. Panel members contribute their knowledge, experience and insight to ensure decision-makers understand the real-life experiences of older people.

We are now recruiting new members to continue and strengthen this work. By joining the panel, you will help amplify the diverse voices of older people across Greater Manchester and increase the reach and effectiveness of the panel’s influence.

Panel members are involved in a range of activities, including attending regular meetings, contributing to consultations and discussions, sharing feedback on policies, strategies and services, and representing the views of older people within their communities and networks. Members may also have opportunities to link with partner organisations, take part in workshops or focus groups, and support specific pieces of work aligned with their interests and experience.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with lived experience of financial hardship, or from those who have worked with organisations supporting older people affected by financial hardship. We welcome interest from people from diverse backgrounds to help ensure the panel reflects the breadth of experiences of older people in Greater Manchester.
