VACCINATION CHAMPIONS PROJECT

The GM Older People’s Network are working with the NHS to share information about vaccinations with people across Greater Manchester who can then share with their communities, groups and networks.

Viruses common in winter can make some people very unwell and result in serious problems that may need hospital care. The NHS offers free vaccines to those at greatest risk, so they can get the protection they need.

Some people are mistrustful of vaccinations and it is recognised that information received from trusted community networks and individuals plays a big part in sharing the importance of vaccinations and allaying fears that people may have ensuring they protect your health, help reduce the spread, and stay well.

Vaccination Workshops

The Equality Panel recently held two workshops as part of the project.

The informative workshops covered:

  • Value of vaccinations for both the individual and the population at large

  • Myth-busting

  • Up to date information on what vaccinations are available

  • When vaccinations are available for older people and other groups

  • Where vaccinations are available

  • Who to contact for more information

  • Different approaches to sharing this information

Following the workshop, Champions took the time to share the knowledge with others. This didn't have to be in any formal way as we recognise that word of mouth is a powerful tool and the aim of this project is to share information as widely as possible.

We are still looking for Champions across Greater Manchester. Although these workshops have now passed, we may look to organise a further session, so if you are interested in getting involved, please let us know by contacting us.
