The work of the Greater Manchester Older People's Network (GMOPN) is all about getting older people’s voices heard. We want to make sure that people have a say in the decision-making that affects them and that their voices are championed in as many relevant areas as possible. In order to do this, we offer and advertise a wide range of participation opportunities for older people to get involved with.

Our Steering Group leads the work of the network. It is made up of older people representing different areas across Greater Manchester. The members attend various other boards, meetings and events. They bring their diverse experience to the meetings every four to six weeks, and make sure the network is always reflecting what older people think is important.  We are currently seeking representatives from Tameside and Wigan.

Working Group

Our three Working Groups - health and social care, transport and housing - offer older people the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to them. Our groups meet every two months and are a way for the network to engage with bigger pieces of work going on in Greater Manchester. Please contact us if you'd like to join a Working Group.

We hold regular events that offer older people the chance to engage with key influencers and policy makers and to share their views on key issues. All our events are organised by a planning committee of network members and have so far focused on the themes of:

  • Health and social care

  • Transport

  • Housing

  • Campaigning

  • Participation

  • Ageism/being age proud

  • Influencing

  • Older People and the media

After our events we produce recommendations and a report based on our findings.  Recently we have held events online in response to the pandemic but are looking forward to meeting again in person soon.
