Easology are a small software development company working with the Greater Manchester Digital Taskforce aiming to ensure that our ever-changing digital experience is inclusive.

'As technology has become increasingly more complex, many people are finding it difficult to use. Some people find smartphones and tablets confusing or overwhelming, whilst others, who are often tech savvy, find smartphones and tablets difficult due to visual or dexterity impairments. At easology we realised that it was time to solve this problem, specifically: How can we make the latest and best technology easier to use, so that everyone can enjoy being online and connected?'

Easology approached the Greater Manchester Older People's Equality Panel for support to evaluate their existing interface software for smartphones and tablets.

The aim was to streamline the appearance of the device screen, create a more accessible environment and reduce digital barriers.

The panel recruited a small group of members with a range of digital experience who met with Easology 3 times over an 18-month period.

The group took the phones and tablets away to test, who would leave comments and suggestions. A follow-up group meeting was arranged to discuss and collate outcomes.

Easology used the findings to inform their software development and how they provide after support for customers.

They are in discussions to build on the relationship with GMCA to link with projects across the city region which provide support, advice and opportunities for older people. who wish to participate digitally.
